Welcome message from Jason Huang - Founder & Principal
Hi, it’s lovely to meet you! My name is Jason Huang, and I have been specialising in tutoring VCE English Language since 2020. With 6+ years of experience teaching VCE Eng Lang, I have tutored 500+ students from 60+ schools (read our 5-star student reviews here), provided exam revision lectures to multiple schools & hundreds of students, and have quickly grown to become the ‘go-to’ tutor in this subject. I have also been referred by teachers to students looking for tutoring – a true testament to my credentials.
I graduated from Nossal High School (a selective entry school) in 2019 with an ATAR of 99.20 and a 47 RAW (48.2 scaled) in VCE English Language. Along with being the DUX of English Language, this result also places me in the top 1% of Victoria. In July 2023, I graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Commerce (DUX of cohort, 4 Scholarships & First Class Honours). With my own academics aside, it’s without a doubt the most important thing in looking for a tutor (any subject) is whether you find what the tutor is teaching is beneficial and helping you to excel in your learning; as to whether the tutor received a 50, 45, or 40; 99, 95, or 90 ATAR is secondary. My student results below prove I can help you achieve your goal.
What I offer is a structured, interactive program that maximises your success in Eng Lang – NOT through luck, but through clear explanations of key concepts, comprehensive lesson booklets, tailored practice materials, high-yield writing workshops, exam readiness strategies, extremely detailed feedback, and 24/7 support, and much more. This rigorous and methodical approach has consistently produced outstanding results — including 5 x Raw 50s since 2020 + Premier’s Awards, and numerous students scoring in the raw 45–49 range (15+ raw 47 - 49s), placing them among the top 2% of Victoria. I’ve mentored over 100 students to achieve ATARs of 98+ (including many 99+s), with more than 80% of my past students scoring 40 or above in VCE English Language, and a median study score of 44.
Teaching VCE English Language is my passion, which is why I have been tutoring VCE Eng Lang full-time since mid-2023. To date, I am the only Melbourne tutor (that I know of) to offer a VCE English Language tutoring service that is recommended by an experienced VCAA English Language Assessor (please refer to here for the Assessor’s recommendation & feedback), along with recommendations from teachers at top performing English Language schools, and being invited to deliver exam revision lectures for their students.
VCE English Language isn’t like any other subject, yet success in it is simple with the right guidance and support, and I am here to help you succeed. My class begins with cultivating a strong foundation of the core linguistic concepts and knowing how to apply (not just understand) metalanguage. Through interactive classes filled with engaging content and targeted writing practice, I aim to help you build the intuition, confidence, and analytical mindset to approach any SAQ, AC, or Essay with clarity and precision — and ultimately, to ace them.
I do not believe in rote memorisation or just handing you answers without you understanding the “why” and “how; my goal is to teach you how to fish, not just give you a fish. My guarantee is that you’ll learn to think critically outside the box, uncover key insights, and express those insights with coherence and clarity. You won’t just be ready for your SACs and the exam — you’ll have mastered the way of thinking that drives success in VCE English Language. This has been the key ingredient of success for my past students (please refer to here for results), and I can’t wait to personally work with you to help you succeed in VCE English Language.
My support also goes beyond just the tutoring. I will always be there for each one of you, whether that is through prompt replies to any questions, regular check-ins to ensure you are not feeling overwhelmed by VCE, or just someone to chat with : )
I look forward to seeing you in my English Language classes in 2026!
From not knowing how to speak a word of English to being the go-to tutor in VCE English Language
Jason’s Story
The founding of Jason Huang VCE English Language Tutoring was motivated by the goal to provide every student with the opportunity to access a tutoring environment that is strategically designed, bridges gaps in learning, and delivers results without bias. We truly believe that education yields one of the highest social impacts — and making a tangible impact is deeply rewarding.
My Journey
Arriving in Australia
When I first immigrated to Australia in 2011, I couldn’t speak a word of English — not even the alphabet. The language barrier, compounded by racism I faced, made things harder.
I still remember how peers would point to objects in the classroom and ask me what they were called. If I chose not to answer/didn’t know (e.g., dictionary), they laughed at me.
One teacher once told me to “write something, anything.” I wrote “something”. She laughed hopelessly.
That moment changed everything — I decided I would master the English language, stand up for myself, and turn this challenge into a strength.
A Defining Moment (2021)
Year: 2021
Setting: An afternoon at an Eastern Suburb station in Victoria
Participants: Me (Jason), and 2 marketing personnel from a company
I was walking out of the station when approached by two marketing personnel. Whilst one tried to speak to me, the other arrogantly said:
“Don’t bother speaking to him, he doesn’t understand English.”
Fuelled with anger, I stopped and said:
“Yes, I didn’t know how to speak English 10+ years ago, but the racism I faced back then from people like you is what motivated me to learn and master the language. Today, I’m the go-to tutor in VCE English Language in Victoria. Feel free to contact me if your child needs VCE English Language support in the future.”
Both smiled awkwardly, embarrassed.
This was just one example of the racism I’ve faced. But I’ve never let it define me. Instead, it has become the fuel for my journey.
Jason’s journey of growth and perseverance
Since coming to Australia in 2011, my path has looked like this:
Year 4 (2011) — New Country, New Language, New Environment & Experienced Bullying
I couldn’t speak English at all
After enrolling at a primary school, I was told I was “not good enough” and was transferred to a language school
Experienced bullying — including having a soccer ball deliberately kicked at my face and being laughed at, unable to stand up for myself due to language barriers
Year 5–6 — Language Barriers & Experienced Bullying
I struggled with reading comprehension and basic essay writing, often being pulled out of class for extra English support
The bullying continued — during lunch, some peers would point at objects in the classroom and ask me to name them in English. When I didn’t respond to them, they laughed
Year 7 — Academic Struggles & Experienced Bullying
I averaged 50–60% in English, consistently receiving Cs and Ds
The language barrier was still a major obstacle. One peer even mocked me by calling me “National English Skills” (almost on a daily basis)
Year 8 — Almost Didn’t Make It
I performed below average in the Writing component of the Selective School Entrance Exam
Gained entry to Nossal High School through Principal’s Discretion, meaning my exam results alone weren’t strong enough — I almost didn’t make it
Year 9 (2016) — Turning Point 🌱
Things began to turn around
Through relentless effort and the support of amazing teachers and peers, I achieved several academic awards in my first year at Nossal High School (Selective Entry) — marking a turning point in my journey

How Tutoring Started
In my first year of University, a friend who was still in year 12 at that time asked me:
“Hey, do you want to tutor me for VCE English Language?”
That one request was the beginning. What started as mentoring one student grew through word of mouth. Soon, I was helping multiple students.
Today, tutoring has become my full-time job, and Jason Huang VCE English Language Tutoring has grown into one of the most celebrated and sought-after VCE English Language tutoring services in Victoria (read our 5-star student reviews here)
Why This Matters to You
My story shows that I wasn’t born “smart.” I faced a lot of challenges and had to work relentlessly to achieve the goals I set for myself. I turned things around — from not knowing the alphabet → to getting Cs in English → to top 1% in VCE English Language and 99+ ATAR → to becoming the state’s go-to tutor in VCE English Language.
This didn’t happen by luck. It happened because of:
Structure
Resilience
Guidance
That’s the same philosophy I now share with my students. With the right support and tailored teaching, I believe every student can succeed in VCE English Language — no matter their background or starting point.
